Members of the bankrupt Springfield Doctors Hospital surgical staff wait out thier last day in the operating lounge. After arriving to work in the morning , left to right, Liz Hartley, Judy Patterson, Lisa Morrow, Dr. Nezzar Haba and Betty Brunelle were told that they would be without a job or bennifits at the end of the business day. "I'm sure the unemployment office is going to be busy," said Hartley, a surgical technician. "I have to figure out how I'm going to pay for school and the rent."

MIssing Democrats at the Texas Senate
Sen. Kim Brimer, R-Fort Worth, remains in the Senate chamber after session was recesses on Thursday, August 7th, 2003. The Senate Deomcrats, who boycotted the special session on congressional redistricting by relocatting to New Mexico, filed a lawsuit earlier in the day questioning the legitimacy of said session and asked to not be arrested if they return to Texas. Immediately after, Gov. Rick Perry and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst asked the Texas Supreme Court to compel the Democrats to return.
