Behind bars
Silvestre, a 13-year old resident of the border town Agua Prieta, Mexico, looks through the U.S./Mexico border at U.S. Border Patrol agents on the other side. Silvestre says that he was born in the U.S., and that his father has been working there for several years. He is hopeful that his father will soon return to prove Silvestre's nationality and take him back to the U.S, or at least to share the money he has been earning with the rest of the family.

Hansen's disease, also known as leprosy, causes loss of feeling in nerve endings and so patients typically damage their fingers and toes without realizing. Despite the condition of his feet, Madeo walks around 2 km per day to beg and do odd jobs in Mysore, India.

John used to dance, hunt and farm. Now he's home bound. Martha has stayed with him, giving up her social life and her responsibilities in the community.
