Entries in this category should portray contemporary concerns, such as rights of the underprivileged, racism, gender equality, or other topics of similar importance. To encourage long-term projects, pictures in these categories only may be from previous years' work. But, half of the pictures must have been taken or first published between Sept. 1, 2004, and Aug. 31, 2005. Maximum of 15 photos.

- Individual Online Multimedia
- A story or essay where the addition of new media tools work to enhance understanding of the subject. The project must be entirely the work of the entering photographer. No more than one story per entry.
