Stevens seems unimpressed, while a young comedian tells her jokes, over a drink at the Canvas bar in San Francisco. Stevens’s enjoys the nightlife in San Francisco and goes out whenever she can get away from studying. One of her favorite bars is the Canvas, which has an open mic comedy night every Thursday.

Stop Looking
Stevens shares an elevator ride with a women and her son at the Powell Street BART Station in San Francisco. “I am constantly the object of peoples scopophilia,� Stevens said, “I just don’t want people to look at me and it just won’t go away.�

Activism
Stevens makes a guest appearance on the Frank Moore Shaman’s Den Talk Show, which is aired on Berkeley public access television. Frank Moore is a celebrity among the disabled community and has fought for disability equality since the late 1970’s. The Shaman’s Den is an edgy interview/ performance show with a variety of special artists and interesting people from around the world.

Special Bond
Stevens relaxes on a Saturday afternoon, during a yoga session with her best friend Sunny Taylor in Berkeley. The two do yoga specifically designed for disabled bodies, which helps their circulation and works muscles they don’t often use.

Isolated
In a lecture hall with more than 70 students, Stevens sits at the back of the classroom, isolated from her colleagues due to the lack of accessibility in older buildings at San Francisco State. Many times in her life, Stevens has felt isolated because of her disability, which is why she has dedicated her life to disability activism. “I’m devoted to the social amelioration of disability because I know how the social conception of disability can have a grave affect on one’s life, because I lived through the pain,� Stevens said. She is currently working on her graduate degree in Human Sexuality.

Scarred Beauty
Due to her disability, Stevens has had 14 surgeries. The scar that extends down her entire back is only a small sign of what she’s gone through. “ I am a proud disabled women and encourage others to be proud of their bodies too.� She said.

Letting Lose
After a dinner meeting with other disabled friends, Stevens dances at a gay bar in Oakland. “I though, well if I am sex crazed, then I might as well get a degree in it, “ she said. Stevens takes pride in being a gay women and dreams of hosting a talk show about sexuality in her future. “My disability and m sexuality are the things that shape who I am.� She said.
