Undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for at least one semester between September 2008 and December 2009 in any college or university worldwide (including community colleges and art schools) may enter. However, those who have worked two years or more as full-time professional photographers (including paid internships) are not eligible to enter this contest.
All entries must have been taken or first published between September 1, 2008 and August 31, 2009 and may not have been previously entered in this contest. (There are some exceptions for category 11 - Documentary, see the categories page).
A single image may not be entered in more than one single image category; however, a single image may be entered in one multiple image category, and the portfolio category. For example, a single image may be used in General News, Domestic Picture Story, and Portfolio, but not in both General News and Portrait since both are single images categories.
Students may enter the same work in both Pictures of the Year International and College Photographer of the Year.
All entries or components of entries must be publishable. The work is not eligible if you invaded someone's privacy, promised not to publish it or have not obtained informed consent in the case of people of diminished capacity.
College Photographer of the Year is a journalistic competition, therefore digital manipulation or any similarly deceiving modification of images or other entry materials is strictly prohibited, with the exception of noted categories (category 8 - Illustration). See the list of categories for further guidelines on each category.
Follow all instructions in the entry preparation section, making special note that:
The deadline for entering CPOY 64 is 11:59PM (Central Daylight Time) on Sunday, September 27, 2009. Entries will not be accepted past this point. Any multimedia mail-in submissions must be postmarked no later than the close of the entry period.
Once you submit your entry, CPOY will confirm your student status with an advisor or instructor.
The advisor or instructor you specify on your entry form will receive details after the September 27th entry deadline explaining the simple confirmation process. Once they have responded you will receive a second email confirming that your entry is complete.
It is suggested that you keep a copy of your entry materials until this point in case you are required to resubmit your entry to correct an error. If you have not received this email on or before October 15th please contact us.
For questions about eligibility you may contact the CPOY staff.
