"I never wanted to have kids. I can’t imagine not having them now though. I first got pregnant when I was 17 ... I’ve been pregnant basically every year since then," says Brie, age 23, as she watches three of her four kids play and enjoy pudding with a knife outside of their trailer home in Ohio.

"There's not much else to do around here but fish and ride our bikes," says a young boy of the amount of things for him and his friends to do in the small town of Chesterhill, Ohio. Located in the hills of southeastern Ohio, Chesterhill consists of one main road with a grocery store, library, bank and diner.

Firearms are commonly sold and traded without proper paperwork at this street festival. Each state has its own gun laws; however, in September of 2004, the assault weapons ban expired and was not renewed by Congress and the president.

Because of their religious beliefs, the Amish do not participate in governmental assistance programs, therefore they have modest school houses and usually only study in a strictly all-Amish school.

Defying a Boy's Club Jessi McCoy is training to become a pro boxer. After discovering boxing and Sam’s Gym when she came to Athens as a student at Ohio University five years ago. After graduation, the sport became her life. Sam, the owner of Sam’s Gym, is her coach. During her training nights, she is most often the only female in the gym, leaving her no choice but to spar with the men.

Jessi goes in for the head punch as she spars with a man during training. Being extremely tough and determined, the men at the gym respect Jessi and usually treat her like one of them, allowing no mercy during a training fight; and new boxers, as well as veterans, will heed her advice on improving a technique.

As Sam, her coach as well as the gym’s owner, discusses her next organized fight with another trainer, Jessi receives a helping hand taking off her headgear after sparring with a man.

Jessi rests on the ropes while waiting for an opponent to spar with while two men practice outside of the ring. Although Jessi practices with men, at times it is harder for her to find someone to spar with.

During fights, Jessi is forced to use the men’s locker room, since she and her opponent are usually the only women competing. Though she changes in the women’s bathroom, she must keep her belongings and warm up before the fight in the locker room with the men.

After weeks of training with men, Jessi is able to participate in a fight with another female. During the Trimble Middle School “Boxing for Books� Fight Night, Jessi and her opponent, Valerie, were the only females to fight all night; the rest were males ranging from young boys to retired pro men boxers.

Susie and their children wait as John prepares the horse to pull the buggy before they traveling to visit Susie’s sister. Much of their family lives close-by to their farm on farms of their own.

Tilly, the eldest of the daughters, makes a face at her younger sister, Lucy, as the family walks up from the barn after doing the afternoon chores. The four sisters share a close bond with one another and spend almost all of their time together.

With four girls all under the age of 6, parents John and Susie stay busy changing diapers and caring for the girls as well as the farm.

Except for the noise of laughter, playing, and occasionally crying from the four girls, without a tv, radio, or hum of electricity or heat, the Beechy house remains quiet. Here, Susie holds her newborn daughter as Lucy plays in the rays of evening light.
