Mark Durkee shoots a .22-caliber magnum
rifle. Although the rifle accepts a cartridge, Durkee

loads one bullet. "I haven't missed in a long
time," he says. Thirty years there were a number of
butchers doing what he does, today Durkee is the only
one
in his part of northern New England.
