The College Photographer of the Year Competition celebrated its 58th year with the November 2003 judging of over 7,000 images submitted by 250 student photographers from 50 colleges and universities worldwide.

Keeping pace with changes in the field of photojournalism, the judging has advanced over the years from prints to slides to the current digital format. CPoY's historic mission of setting standards for student photographers and providing recognition for outstanding vision, reporting and storytelling remains as important today as when founder Cliff Edom held the first judging in 1945.
