A Joshua Tree is lit up against the night sky and visible light pollution from the nearby city of Palm Springs at Joshua Tree National Park in southern California. The park, which was designated a national monument in 1936 and officially made a national park by Congress in 1994, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
